Basic principles of color in Painting (Drawing, Composition, Color).
Topics Covered:
- Understanding the visible world and depictions based on perspective drawing.
- Color theory.
- Techniques (mainly paints) for easy depiction.
- Light in shaping volumes (chiaroscuro with color).
- Color relationships and emotions in modern painting movements.
- Copying as an initial learning stage, enlargements with the help of the grid, and materials – pencil for drawing, tempera, acrylic, or plastic for color.

Drawing-Color
Painting is an excellent form of expression that allows us to communicate emotions, ideas, and stories with the stroke of a brush. Whether you are drawn to landscapes, portraits, still lives, or abstract concepts, there is a world of possibilities waiting for you on the canvas. Whether you are a beginner eager to explore the world of painting or an experienced artist looking to enhance your skills, our program offers an inspiring and nurturing environment for all levels of expertise.
We will start by establishing a strong foundation, focusing first on drawing without color, as painting is an extension of drawing, and a painting without drawing is inherently more limited. At this stage, we will concentrate on practicing gesture, proportions, and composition-space management.
Once we gain some confidence in these areas, we will introduce color into the equation. Colors form an organized, structured set, and we will explore their connections and differences by addressing questions such as: What are the properties of color? What are the primary and complementary colors? How is color harmony achieved? How do we create chiaroscuro with color? The most fundamental principle to remember is that each color depends on the environment it is in. Therefore, it is always examined in relation to the colors around it and not in isolation. We will use water-soluble paints: acrylics and watercolors.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Annual membership registration required: €15
- Trial lessons are only allowed in monthly programs (1 per program) by paying the corresponding lesson fee.
- Membership fees for all monthly programs are paid in advance on the first day of the respective month.
- Official holidays are included in the membership fees and are not made up (Official holidays: 26/10, 28/10, 24/12 (half-day), 25/12, 26/12, 31/12 (half-day), 1/1, 6/1, Clean Monday, 25/3, 1/5, 2/5 (half-day), 3/5, 4/5, 5/5, 6/5, 24/6 (Holy Spirit) and 15/8).
- In case of absence due to the member’s fault, no transfers are allowed.
- In departments with a waiting list, if the membership is not renewed within the first week of each month, the spot will be allocated.
- Tuition fees are non-refundable: if the interested party cancels their participation for any reason, if they do not attend the lessons for any reason, or if they choose to discontinue attendance during the lessons. Transfer of participation to a different program of YMCA Thessaloniki for themselves or for a relative within the same financial year is allowed.
- Cost of magnetic card in case of loss: €3.
