YMCA Thessaloniki Scholarship Program

Since 2010, the YMCA Thessaloniki has awarded more than 883 scholarships—totaling €295,800—to children from vulnerable population groups for free participation in its programs (sports, creative activities, camp programs, recreational activities). The children come from single-parent families with low income and unemployment, economically vulnerable families from local communities where YMCA Thessaloniki operates, refugee families, as well as children from social organizations such as SOS Children’s Villages, Asylum for Children, ARSIS, Melissa, Initiative for the Child in Veria, Hellenic Children’s Village in Filiro, Adolescent Unit AHEPA, Agios Stylianos, Asylum for Children, Thessaloniki Municipality Asylum Seeker Family Shelter, Child Protection Center “Faros tou Kosmou,” and NAOMI ” .”

In 2023, a total of 46 scholarships were awarded, with a total value of approximately €16,000. Beneficiaries participated in various winter programs (rhythmic gymnastics, hip hop, basketball, volleyball, football, ballet, swimming), in the YMCA Thessaloniki camps during the summer months, as well as in the Summer Employment programs. Additionally, vulnerable individuals—both adults and children—participated in YMCA programs at a reduced fee through the “Open Doors” program.

Criteria for Participating in the Scholarship Program:

  • Single parenthood (unmarried mother, natural loss, divorce)
  • Financial status

Submission of supporting documents for the winter program period will start on September 15, 2024.

  • Family status certificate
  • Death certificate (in case of natural loss of a parent)
  • Court decision on divorce, child custody, and alimony (in case of divorce)
  • Tax return from the parent and/or child for the previous year (and a declaration from the parent regarding the child’s income) – Annual family income must not exceed €12,000
  • Unemployment certificate
  • In cases where there is a recommendation from cooperating organizations, a recommendation certificate from the respective organization must be submitted.
