VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION AT YMCA THESSALONIKI

Since the first voluntary blood donation event at YMCA Thessaloniki in November 2019, the Social ActionHuman & Society Department has continued to organize voluntary blood donations twice a year. To date, there have been 10 drives at the central YMCA Thessaloniki building, always supported by the Blood Donation Service of AHEPA Hospital. During these events, 730 units of blood have been collected, with more than 1,110 volunteers coming to YMCA Thessaloniki to donate. All ten voluntary blood donations have been the result of collaboration with social organizations and are dedicated to individuals suffering from thalassemia (Mediterranean anemia). Donors are scheduled by appointment.
Voluntary blood donations are conducted according to the appropriate protocol as defined by EODY (Hellenic National Public Health Organization) for off-hospital events.
