Men’s Volleyball

Volleyball was invented on February 9, 1895, by American professor William Morgan, who worked at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA.

In Greece, volleyball was introduced in 1919 by the YMCA Thessaloniki, which served as the gateway for the sport of volleyball for Thessaloniki and the entire country.

In the 1921 championship, four teams participated. Records from that time show that Panathinaikos and Ethnikos G.S. reached the final. Due to the wartime situation of that era, YMCA Thessaloniki took the initiative to organize sports events. At that time, it was the only organization in Greece with the expertise to carry out such an endeavor in 1921.

The YMCA Thessaloniki volleyball department has now been active for 100 years, having produced great athletes and achieved significant distinctions and titles.

Focusing on ensuring quality, utilizing new methods, and drawing from the long-standing expertise, the YMCA Thessaloniki volleyball academies operate at the highest level, promoting amateur sports and all its ideals!

YMCA Thessaloniki maintains teams in all age categories under the guidance of experienced coaches and trainers. The men’s team competes in the A2 national category.

The men’s volleyball department of YMCA Thessaloniki, with its rich history and tradition, continues to compete at high levels, always aiming for excellence in sports and team spirit.
