Table Tennis (Ping-Pong) for Girls
Table Tennis, commonly known as Ping-Pong, is one of the most popular sports worldwide and is the second most technically demanding sport. The sport’s origins are debated between 17th-century England and ancient China.
In the early 1920s, table tennis made its official debut in Greece, with the YMCA initiating its promotion in Athens and Thessaloniki.
In 1956, an independent federation was established, and YMCA was among the founding clubs of the Greek Table Tennis Federation. Since then, YMCA Thessaloniki has been a leading force in national championships across all ages and categories, both in team and individual events, creating a remarkable history filled with domestic and international accolades, cups, and gold medals.
The table tennis department of YMCA Thessaloniki has remained an undisputed ambassador of the sport in Thessaloniki and Northern Greece since 1956 and continues to genuinely represent the ideals, principles, and values symbolized by the organization’s emblem.
Modern table tennis is a fast-paced, dynamic sport that requires quick reaction speed, explosive power, and strong judgment, prediction, and reaction abilities. It is characterized by synchronized hand and foot movements and a high level of concentration, perception, and composure.
Throughout its long history, table tennis at YMCA Thessaloniki has produced outstanding athletes and significant figures in the sport and athletics in Greece. Athletes from the club have represented national teams and excelled in world and European championships. Our men’s team competes in the B National Category, and the women’s team competes in the A1 National Category.
Since 2006, training sessions have been held in the state-of-the-art facility at the “M. Tsikinas” Sports Center.
