The Art History course series is intended for those who wish to explore and understand visual art production from the end of the Medieval period to the Modernism of the 20th century.

The course is divided into two cycles, each consisting of eleven 2-hour sessions.

Cycle A

  • Basic Concepts in Art History and Representation Techniques
  • From Medieval Art to Early Renaissance
  • High Renaissance – Mannerism
  • Baroque – Rococo: Art at the End of the 18th Century
  • Introduction to 19th Century Art and Its Particularities – Classicism
  • From the Cold Perfection of Classicism to the Emotional Exuberance of Romanticism
  • Realism and Idealistic Movements in the Mid-Century
  • Photography and Painting in the 19th Century
  • Impressionism: A Breakthrough in Representation
  • Post-Impressionist Movements
  • Museum Visit

Cycle B

The second cycle will begin with trends from the late 19th century, including Post-Impressionist movements and Art Nouveau. It will then cover the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century, art during the Interwar period, and the development of artistic creation in the early post-war years.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • Annual membership registration required: €15
  • Trial lessons are only available in monthly programs (1 per program) with the corresponding lesson fee.
  • Membership fees for all monthly programs are paid in advance on the first day of the respective month.
  • In case of absence due to the member’s fault, no transfers are allowed.
  • In departments with a waiting list, if the membership is not renewed within the first week of each month, the spot will be allocated.
  • Tuition fees are non-refundable: if the participant cancels their participation for any reason, if they do not attend the lessons for any reason, or if they choose to discontinue during the lessons. Transfer of participation to a different program of YMCA Thessaloniki for themselves or for a relative within the same financial year is allowed.
  • Cost of magnetic card in case of loss: €3
