1990 Start of a 3-year experiential training program for teenagers aged 14-16. The program began with 110 children and 8 trainers.
1993 Training program for new YMCA branches in Bulgaria and Romania, held in Greece for 8 days. National competitions involving all children attending the staff school with events such as athletics, swimming, etc. Parent awareness program in collaboration with the Mental Health Center.
1994 Organization of the 1st Conference titled “Staff School: Yesterday – Today – Tomorrow” – Sunday, April 3, 1994.
1996 A cross-border program was organized between YMCA Thessaloniki, Gabrovo (Bulgaria), and Bucharest under the name Young Democrats, lasting one year and including many activities. Funded by the European PHARE & TACIS program.
1997 Staff conference on the theme: “Volunteers & Volunteering in YMCA 2001,” which was attended by the General Secretary of European YMCA, Mr. Dolf Weder.
1999 Training for trainers on “Addiction and Prevention” with Mr. F. Kaloterakis, Director of the therapeutic community ITHAKI.
2001 Training for trainers on substance abuse prevention by SEIRIOS-OKANA. As part of the 80th anniversary celebrations of YMCA Thessaloniki, the Staff School organized Xanthening.gr Outdoor activities and Graffiti at YMCA Thessaloniki’s sports fields shortly before they were demolished for the construction of new modern facilities, and a major concert at Pavilion 17 of the Thessaloniki International Fair with Dionysis Tsaknis and Lavrentis Machairitsas.
2002 Start of the “Welcoming and Touring of Primary Schools” program at the historic YMCA Thessaloniki building, with over 1,000 children participating annually.
2005 Start of Staff School in Volos. Organization of two exchanges funded by the Youth General Secretariat through the YOUTH program, named Multipl(a)y II in March and Multipl(a)y III in November. The program was hosted twice at the Halkidiki camp. Youth organizations from 6 different European countries participated, each with 5-8 members.
2006 Implementation of the international exchange titled “Power in Youth” from March 16-22 at the Saint Nicholas Halkidiki camp. Organized by the Staff School of YMCA Thessaloniki in collaboration with the International Synergy group and funded by the European “Youth” program through the General Secretariat for Youth. The program included 34 young people from 9 countries: Greece, Netherlands, Hungary, Latvia, Italy, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Lithuania.
2007 Hosting of volunteer Jorinde Naarding from the Olde Vechte-Netherlands center, through the European Voluntary Service program for 6 months at YMCA Thessaloniki, who assisted with various Staff School programs.
2008 Implementation of the international exchange titled “Interpersonal to Intercultural II” from March 7-18 at the Saint Nicholas Halkidiki camp. The Staff School presented the project of the 3rd cycle titled “Thessaloniki” on April 19-20 at Navarinou Square.
2009 The Staff School presented the project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play-Act-MotiON” on April 11-12 at Navarinou Square, with the theme “How do I engage as an active citizen in my city.” Exchange program for 25 young people from Greece, Lebanon, Malta, and Italy titled “Following the Steps of the Centaur Chiron” from August 27 to September 6 at the Saint John camp in Pelion.
2010 The Staff School was renamed to the Department of Staff & Youth Volunteer Training at YMCA Thessaloniki. The Staff School presented the project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play-Act-MotiON” with the theme “How do I engage as an active citizen in my city.”
2011 The Staff School presented the project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play-Act-MotiON” with the theme “How do I engage as an active citizen in my city” on May 7 at the new beach near the White Tower.
2012 Start of Staff School in Athens. The Staff School presented the project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play-Act-MotiON” with the theme “Adventures in Our City!” on March 24 at the new beach near the White Tower.
2013 The Staff School presented the project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play-Act-MotiON” with the theme “Thessaloniki, a Neighborhood” on April 21 at the new beach, in the Music Park, next to the Concert Hall.
2014 The Staff School presented the project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play-Act-MotiON” with the theme “The Tower of Our Dreams” on April 12 & 13 at the White Tower, behind the Royal Theater.
2015 The Staff School visited the YMCA Basketball Museum located at the “Mimis Tsikinas” sports center for its one-year anniversary. On May 9, the project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play-Act-MotiON” with the theme “Thessaloniki.; …I Want!!!” was presented at the White Tower, behind the Royal Theater.
2016 The 1st cycle of the Staff School visited the YMCA Basketball Museum at the “Mimis Tsikinas” sports center. During February, March & April, the Staff School operated in Volos.
On May 7, the project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play-Act-MotiON #vol9” was presented in the Music Gardens at the new beach of Thessaloniki, near the Concert Hall. The events focused on social contribution and solidarity, providing aid to refugees in our country. In November and with the new academic year, the Staff School program starts in Athens and in December, in Volos.
2017 On May 13, the Staff School presented the 10th and anniversary project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play-Act-MotiON” with the theme “Changing the World by First Changing Myself” at the White Tower. The social aspect of the event was the collaboration and financial support of groups and individuals with intellectual disabilities or other disabilities residing at the KEP EP Saint Dimitrios Foundation.
In the school cultural excursions program titled “Walk in YMCA Thessaloniki,” more than 1,000 primary school students from the Thessaloniki region participated. In November and with the new academic year, the Staff School program starts in Athens and in December, in Volos.
2018 On May 5, the Staff School presented the 11th project of the 3rd cycle titled “Today-Play-Act-MotiON” with the theme “Stop! Look! Listen! Take Action!” at the White Tower. The social aspect of the event was the collaboration and financial support of groups and individuals with intellectual disabilities or other disabilities residing at the KEP EP Saint Dimitrios Foundation.
In the school cultural excursions program titled “Walk in YMCA Thessaloniki,” more than 1,000 primary school students from the Thessaloniki region participated.
In April, collaboration took place with the Intercultural High School of Evosmos, which, as part of the Erasmus+ program, hosted students from Sweden and Slovakia, and YMCA Thessaloniki took on the tour and entertainment of the students in the center of Thessaloniki.
In November and with the new academic year, the Staff School programs start in Athens, Volos, and Asvestochori.
2019 During February and March, YMCA Thessaloniki and EOEE – ETHN.OA pioneered a project for the dissemination of Olympic and Cultural Values in which more than 100 volunteers and 500 trainees of the Staff School program participated.
On April 20, the Staff School presented the 12th project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play – Act – MotiΟΝ” at the White Tower. The theme of the project was the information, promotion, and implementation of experiential activities closely related to the realization of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals “Agenda 2030.”
In August 2019, volunteers and trainees of the Staff School attended the 175th anniversary celebrations of YMCA in London.
In November and with the new academic year, the Staff School programs start in Athens, Volos, and Asvestochori.
In December, the Staff School undertakes for the first time the organization of YMCA Thessaloniki’s Christmas Bazaar, the proceeds of which will be allocated to YMCA Thessaloniki’s scholarship program and specifically to the participation of refugees in its programs.
2020 In February, the volunteer and trainee staff of the Staff School visited the historical archive of YMCA Thessaloniki, actively supporting the major fundraising campaign for its preservation.
In April 2020, in response to social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the launch of the e-Staff School for all trainees of the program was announced.
In December and with the new academic year, the e-Staff School programs start in Asvestochori and Volos.
2021 On April 23 & 24, the Staff School presented the 13th project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play – Act – MotiΟΝ” with the theme “Stay connected, stay active, Stay involved,” online. The theme of the project was the information, promotion, and implementation of workshops closely related to the realization of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals “Agenda 2030.”
In November and with the new academic year, the e-Staff School program for staff residing abroad or in other cities started, and the Staff School programs began in Asvestochori and Volos.
2022 On April 23, the Staff School presented the 14th project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play – Act – MotiΟΝ” with the theme “Taking Action for Our City!” online. The theme of the project was the information, promotion, and implementation of workshops closely related to the realization of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals “Agenda 2030.”
In November and with the new academic year, the e-Staff School program for staff residing abroad or in other cities continued, and the Staff School programs began in Athens, Asvestochori, and Volos.
2023 The Staff School continued its e-learning programs and local initiatives, focusing on community engagement, sustainability, and providing support to those in need. The annual project of the 3rd cycle titled “Play – Act – MotiΟΝ” was presented with the theme “Innovating for Change,” focusing on the evolving needs of communities and the importance of adaptability in times of crisis.
