What is Pilates?
The Pilates method was developed in the 1920s by the legendary German physical trainer and founder of the Pilates Studio Joseph Pilates. It is a system of exercises based on well-structured philosophical and theoretical foundations, aimed at strengthening the body and rehabilitation after musculoskeletal injuries.
It is the ideal way of exercising to improve posture and treat musculoskeletal problems, as it aims to restore the spine to its correct anatomical position, strengthen the lumbar spine and increase flexibility and elasticity.
In addition to the disciplined and actively varied exercises, key principles of the system are:
Breathing, Control, Concentration, Precision and Continuous Movement.
This method is also used as a training method by professional athletes, dancers and those who want a kind of exercise that gives toning and flexibility and relieves the stress of everyday life.
The wide range of exercises is adapted each time to the needs of the practitioner, depending on age, fitness level and health problems. Each program is unique and there are different levels of difficulty.
Rena Papadopoulou lives, works and creates as a dancer, choreographer and as a teacher of contemporary dance, kinesiology, pilates and personal trainer. Having studied at the Higher Professional School of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, she has taught in many schools and dance studios. In addition, she specializes in the Pilates method which she has been teaching for many years now at H.A.N.Th. and in Pilates Studios. She has attended numerous dance pedagogy seminars and pilates workshops with certified and accomplished teachers. She has also participated in many festivals in Greece and abroad.
Her involvement with movement and physical exercise starts from a very young age. She has always been interested in focusing below the surface of things. This was the reason for her interest in a more meaningful way of communicating with the body. This is how she discovered Pilates where during her training she had the opportunity to experience its deep philosophy. Having a dance training as a basis, her approach to pilates was from this perspective.
Her immediate plan for the future is to continue this wondrous research journey into the world of movement and share it.
