Table Tennis (Ping-Pong) for Boys
Table Tennis, also known as Ping-Pong, is one of the most popular sports in the world and the second most technically challenging sport. The origins of table tennis are contested between 17th-century England and ancient China.
In the early 1920s, table tennis made its official debut in Greece, with the YMCA starting to promote the sport in Athens and Thessaloniki.
In 1956, an independent federation was established, and the YMCA was one of the founding clubs of the Greek Table Tennis Federation. Since then, YMCA Thessaloniki has been a leading force in national championships across all ages and categories, in both team and individual events, creating a distinguished history filled with accolades, both domestic and international, cups, and gold medals.
The table tennis department of YMCA Thessaloniki has been an undisputed ambassador of the sport in Thessaloniki and Northern Greece since 1956 and continues to be a genuine representative of the ideals, principles, and values symbolized by the organization’s emblem.
Modern table tennis is a fast-paced, dynamic sport requiring quick reaction speed, explosive power, and strong judgment, prediction, and reaction skills. It is characterized by synchronized hand and foot movements and a high level of concentration, perception, and composure.
Over its long history, table tennis at YMCA Thessaloniki has produced remarkable athletes and significant figures in the sport and athletics in Greece. Athletes from the club have represented national teams and excelled in world and European championships. Our men’s team competes in the B National Category, and the women’s team competes in the A1 National Category.
Since 2006, training sessions have been held in the state-of-the-art facility at the “M. Tsikinas” Sports Center.
