Musical Competition of YMCA Thessaloniki “Tasos Pappas”

Tasos Pappas was born in Florina in 1926. He was one of the leading figures in Greek choral history. He was a professor of Theory at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, music teacher at the American College “Anatolia,” at the American Farm School, and responsible for music at YMCA camps in Pelion. He directed many choirs with numerous distinctions in Greece and abroad. He arranged and harmonized folk songs and “Lieder” for a four-part choir in an exceptional way. His work demonstrates great compositional talent and serves as material for later orchestrations. He passed away young in 1970 in Thessaloniki, without realizing his great dream of creating a second lyrical stage based in Thessaloniki.
