REACT – COLLABORATION FOR REFUGEE ASSISTANCE IN THESSALONIKI

The YMCA Thessaloniki has been actively participating in the innovative humanitarian project REACT (Refugee Assistance Collaboration Thessaloniki) from its inception, with the Municipality of Thessaloniki serving as the Lead Partner. The “REACT 2021” program is part of the “ESTIA 2021: Housing Program for International Protection Applicants,” which is implemented by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, funded by the Ministry’s Public Investment Program, and may be covered by the European Union’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund’s Emergency Support Mechanism.
The “REACT 2021” partnership includes the following organizations:
- Municipality of Thessaloniki
- Municipality of Neapoli – Sykeon
- Municipality of Kalamaria
- Development Agency of Eastern Thessaloniki
- ARSIS – Social Youth Support Organization
- YMCA Thessaloniki
- PRAKSIS – Programs for Social Support and Medical Cooperation
- Development Agency of Greater Thessaloniki
The goal of the REACT program is to contribute to the overall effort to address the refugee crisis in Greece by identifying, establishing, and maintaining 949 housing units in private apartments and 30 places in the Asylum Seekers Center – “Hostel” for vulnerable asylum seekers. The program provides a comprehensive range of support services including financial assistance, interpretation, transportation and accompaniment, as well as health management and specialized psychosocial support, through a local network of Thessaloniki’s city organizations, including local authorities and non-governmental organizations.
As a partner in the program, YMCA Thessaloniki has been responsible from the outset for creative and athletic activities and summer camps for the minor beneficiaries of the program.
